Red Velvet Cake

This towering cake is made with deep red cake layers and lots of cream cheese frosting. Unsweetened cocoa powder and red food coloring give the cake its signature hue.

Ingreadient :

  • 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • ¼ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 ¼ teaspoons kosher salt
  • 2 ¼ cups granulated sugar
  • 2 cups vegetable oil
  • 3 eggs (large)
  • 3 tablespoons red food coloring
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 ¼ cups buttermilk
  • 2 ½ teaspoons distilled white vinegar
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
Frosting
  • 2 cream cheese (8-ounce blocks softened)
  • 2 sticks unsalted butter (softened)
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 2 confectioners' sugar (1-pound boxes)
